Nick began playing at an early age in the small town in central Missouri and went on to be one of the top high school golfers in the state. After graduation, he attended Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. At Methodist University, Nick played all four years on the golf team and earned his degree in Business Administration with a Concentration in Professional Golf Management. He completed three summer internships working at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, Chicago, and in Pinehurst. After college, Nick moved to Florida where he competed on the Hooters Tour Winter Series.
After realizing that he could hold his own, but not compete day in and day out, he moved back to North Carolina where he accepted an Assistant Golf Professional position at the prestigious Wade Hampton in the mountains. Nick worked several more years in Charlotte at Firethorne Country Club, Dana Rader Golf School, Carmel Country Club, and Emerald Lake. Nick spent three years as Head Golf Professional at The Badin Inn Golf Club, and in 2013, as the Director of Golf at Tillery Tradition, he accepted the position as Head Golf Professional at Monroe Country Club in Monroe, NC.
